The Razer Blade 18 is a beast in every way

Blog

For several weeks I have been trying out the Razer Blade 18 (2024), a gaming laptop that comes with all the latest specifications on the market, a delight for lovers of top-of-the-range products.

If you think about a gaming laptop, one of the first brands that always comes to mind is Razer, with an impeccable track record that has resulted over time in really powerful and cutting-edge products.

This year’s Razer Blade 18, which I have been able to test for several weeks, is yet another example of what laptops specialising in video game launching can achieve today.

But it’s not all about power. Beyond that, the Razer Blade 18 brings together the best in every category to become one of the best gaming laptops of this year (and the years to come).

It is a large and heavy laptop, but its size is fully justified

In any case, its measurements are more than justified, because its components, all of them the best available on the market today, require a little more space. In addition, an 18-inch screen also needs this.

During my working day, I have found it a really comfortable laptop, as these measurements make it almost like a monitor attached to a desktop PC. And this is appreciated if you are looking for a large laptop with everything you need.

Precisely because of these dimensions, the Razer Blade 18 can accommodate numerous ports, so you can connect any cable you can think of, from HDMI for external monitors to RJ45 for LAN or a card reader.

In this sense, I think Razer has excelled in the connectivity section so that the most demanding user lacks nothing; among the laptops I have tried, I have not seen any other that has so many types of ports.

Finally, it is a laptop that has the latest versions for wireless connections, such as Bluetooth 5.4 and WiFi 7 – at least in this version that I have had in my hands, as others change the specifications.

The Razer Blade 18 gives everything to its screen: 18 inches, 4K and 200 Hz

Thanks to the excellent design of this laptop, the Razer Blade 18 has been able to achieve a visual and sound section that other manufacturers can envy.

In this sense, the laptop includes a spectacular 18-inch UHD+ panel, with 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,400 pixels), 16:10 aspect ratio and a refresh rate that, at the maximum level, allows it to reach 200 Hz.

All this with an Nvidia RTX 4090 card as the protagonist, although it varies depending on the option you choose. In my case, the test model has been equipped with this powerful graphics card, one of the best on the market today.

As if that were not enough, the position of the speakers has been very well chosen, as they are located on either side of the keyboard, preventing any distortion (in some laptops these are located at the bottom, which causes this effect).

The Razer Blade 18 is almost unrivalled in terms of power

Inside, the Razer Blade 18 has opted for the 14th generation of Intel processors, specifically the Intel Core i9-14900HX with 24 cores and 32 threads, in addition to a whopping 64 gigabytes of DDR5 RAM.

In this sense, it is a laptop completely dedicated to video games, which does not mean that you cannot use it for other types of activities, such as work or studies.

Thus, it could be compared to what I saw with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D of the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17, the competitor’s processor that is in the highest range; thus, according to static analyses, the Razer Blade 18 outperforms the Asus in some respects, although only slightly.

In any case, you will be able to run numerous applications simultaneously without it getting too hot, as the fan works superbly, even when using it in automatic mode, which identifies the temperature of the laptop.

In short, it is a powerhouse for those looking for a truly demanding gaming experience, being able to run triple-A titles that demand numerous resources without hardly breaking a sweat, as they say.

On the other hand, I have chosen to use it almost always connected to the mains, because its outstanding performance also has an impact on autonomy, so it will depend on the mode you have chosen. In any case, it charges in approximately one hour.

Razer knows how to get the most out of its applications

There is one application that is always present on Razer devices, one of the most useful: Razer Synapse, the nerve centre of this Razer Blade 18.

With it, you can access information related to the status of your laptop, such as different system values – performance, screen, sound, lighting, etc. – to which it adds an endless number of customisation tools.

Thanks to the inclusion of this application by default, the laptop can be used to its full potential, with an almost unique experience if you want to customise even the smallest detail anywhere on the laptop, with tools like Studio or Visualizer.

In addition, it includes other quite interesting ones, such as Razer Axon, with different desktop background images – you can also create your own styles – and Razer Cortex, a kind of library that will allow you to optimise any video game.

Conclusion: is the Razer Blade 18 worth buying?

After spending several weeks with the Razer Blade 18, I found it to be one of the best laptops I’ve ever tested.

Not only because of the great performance I mentioned, but also because it offers state-of-the-art components in each and every one of the areas analysed. However, the configuration of this model is the highest possible, so you can reduce the price if you choose somewhat more modest specifications.

However, the version you have seen here costs over 5,000 euros on the official Razer website, although it can be found at other retailers for a lower price. In any case, it is a significant investment that only you can consider.
