I tested one of LG’s best TVs, the LG QNED 87, with several high-end specifications and a price of just over 1000 euros.
As is usual with LG TVs, it has webOS, its own operating system that allows you to make the most of everything it has to offer, as well as having a high-end TV at a fairly reasonable price.
After several weeks of testing, the LG QNED 87 has become one of my favorite TVs, mainly because it offers features that are hard to find at this price.
Its stand allows you to make the most of even the smallest spaces.
Nowadays, almost all TVs have a very slim design. This LG is not the slimmest you will see, but it has a well-finished look, as well as fairly thin bezels that you will hardly notice while watching it. I used the 65-inch one, but there are more.
Firstly, you can choose between two different levels for mounting your TV, at least if you do it with the stand, as you could also mount it on the wall. In my case, I chose to place the screws so that the TV was higher up and you could see the stand clearly.
If you are worried about the installation, I have to admit that it is not very complicated, as all the necessary screws and instructions are included; you just need someone to help you, although the box is well prepared for assembly.
Secondly, the design of the base is worth mentioning. As it is in the center, instead of having two legs almost on the sides, it allows the use of a table slightly smaller than the unit. If you look closely, I have placed it on a table where I would normally put a computer.
In addition, the base has a housing for all the cables, so you can easily hide them.
Finally, the LG QNED87 comes with a Magic Remote MRM24, which can be operated manually, with the buttons or with the pointer. In any case, it has the most important shortcuts to facilitate the end user experience, although it does not have backlighting.
The AI-optimized picture mode is not the only one and LG offers many styles adapted to what you see
With the LG QNED87, you won’t find a high-end TV, so you won’t have the highest quality values on the market, although I don’t think that’s a problem, as it has HDR10, which I personally consider a high-quality standard.
On a day-to-day basis, unless you look very closely, you will hardly notice any difference between the two; in addition to HDR10, the TV has access to HLG at certain times, especially when you start watching live TV. In any case, you will have access to 4K content.
If, like me, you are one of those who prefer not to touch values such as brightness, contrast or saturation, your operating system allows you to configure different image styles, from a standard one to a more vivid one – in case there are reflections – or filmmaker – for movies, among others.
I made the most of all these modes, especially the vivid one when sunlight reflects directly on the screen, something you will notice right now; it also includes an AI-optimized mode, a basic feature to keep it as a favorite.
LG knows how to make webOS one of the best operating systems for TVs.
I am very familiar with webOS and, in my opinion, it is one of the best operating systems you can have on a television for several reasons.
The first of these is its ease of use, with a very uncluttered main interface, with the applications at the top along with announcements of launches for different platforms. If you want to edit the positions of the applications, you can do so.
The second is the variety of content on offer with completely free access to LG Channels. Although it only has just over 30 on-demand titles, with live TV you can watch great series like Breaking Bad.
The third reason has to do with its connectivity, as it comes with Chromecast, Alexa is just a click away and you can see everything from LG ThinQ, the mobile application that allows you to configure the TV in a more comfortable way.
A very positive feature is that if you place it in the living room, you can configure it with preset modes to turn it into the control center of the connected home or as an office TV.
Finally, I didn’t miss any applications, not even for video games, as you can play titles like Fortnite or Arkham without a console, among many others.
It allows you to adjust the sound with AI, although I have chosen to add an soundbar.
As is often the case with most televisions, sound is not the strong point of this LG model, although it does not affect the overall score, which is excellent.
Again, as with the image, it can be improved by artificial intelligence, which is especially noticeable when dialogues and music seem to be part of different content.
However, there is some content, especially from platforms like YouTube, that sounds a bit canned, so for a better experience in this regard, I used the LG S70T soundbar, which has Dolby Atmos, together with the TV.
My advice, with any TV model you’ve invested a lot of money in, is to add a matching soundbar. In this case, it allowed me to enjoy the television even more.
Conclusion: Is the LG QNED 87 worth it?
After a few weeks with this television, the LG QNED 87 65” seems to me to be one of the best options when buying a new device of this type.
If you take a look at the best televisions in this segment, you will see that this model is one of the best, as not only does it have several specifications that place it in the high-end range, but its price also slightly exceeds the 1000 euro barrier, at least in this size, 65 inches.
In conclusion, I think it’s a great investment if you’re thinking of buying a new TV, but with several high-end features, all at an almost irresistible price.
