The LG Free Tone T90s has an excellent battery

The LG FreeTone T90s are headphones that come with a unique charging case and offer excellent sound quality and a powerful battery.

In a market as saturated as that of wireless headphones, it is difficult to find an option that stands out from its competitors in terms of design or performance.

Apart from a few options such as those from Nothing, to name a few, the case or headphones follow a well-established pattern. That’s why I was pleasantly surprised by the LG FreeTone T90s, which I had the pleasure of trying out for a few weeks.

The reasons? A case with UVnano technology, which uses ultraviolet light to clean the earbuds when you’re not using them, a battery indicator that saves you from having to check the app, and earbuds with a different look than usual.

And the best part? That’s not all: they have excellent sound, very good noise cancellation, and an absolutely titanic battery.

Design: compact and useful case and extremely comfortable and lightweight earbuds

The case follows the usual design standards, but I think it has three distinguishing features.

First, a small LED light that changes between green, yellow, and red when you open it and indicates the battery level of the case, a great detail that saves you from having to open the app, and second, a slightly flatter size than usual, which makes it smaller and more manageable and fits anywhere without any problems.

The third feature is what really sets it apart: it comes with UVnano, an ultraviolet light that eliminates 99.9% of bacteria from the earbuds in just 10 minutes of charging. What’s more, the ear tips can be removed and washed to remove any stubborn dirt.

It’s also really nice to the touch, the lid opens very easily, and taking the headphones out is really simple.

These headphones have a unique design, and at first glance, it’s not very clear how to put them on or whether you should turn them or press them inwards. I would have appreciated a guide on how to put them on, to be honest.

However, once you have them on correctly, they fit perfectly, are very lightweight, and are designed to be worn for several hours without any discomfort.

Sound and noise cancellation: excellent quality in every way

In terms of sound, I found it excellent thanks to the 9.8 mm graphene driver that makes everything sound really good. In addition, they support audio up to 24bit / 96kHz, allowing you to enjoy studio-quality sound.

They also have several sound options with an equalizer created in collaboration with Meridian, allowing you to choose your favorite mode from several options.

My favorite? Immersive mode, although this is a matter of taste. And if you’re not convinced, you can also create your own favorite option with a very good and comprehensive equalizer.

The most interesting feature, however, is Dolby Head Tracking, the first headphones to incorporate this technology, which follows the movement of your head and places you at the center of the action, so that the music comes out from one side or the other depending on where you are looking. This creates an even more immersive and spatial sound that is truly amazing.

It’s true that this mode is more designed for sitting down and enjoying a song or an album, as it can feel a bit strange when you’re on the move.

As for noise cancellation, I think it does an excellent job. When you have music playing at a normal volume, it completely isolates you from outside noise, so there’s little more to add. It also comes with several ear tips to fit all ear types.

App and connectivity: it has everything you need and a fun app

First, it has Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity for seamless pairing with Android, with Fast Pair, and with iOS, as well as Plug & Wireless, which allows for seamless connection with non-Bluetooth devices such as treadmills in gyms, TVs in hotels, or entertainment systems.

Add to this AAC and SBC codecs and aptX Adatative, a Qualcomm technology that ensures the best possible audio quality when streaming wirelessly, and multipoint connection, so you can have several devices connected at once.

The app, meanwhile, features the comprehensive equalizer I mentioned earlier, which allows you to easily set your ideal sound, and has a useful “find my headphones” feature in case you can’t find them when you need them.

To wrap up this section, let’s talk about the controls. The touch controls are very refined, with classic button presses to skip songs, answer calls, or activate noise cancellation, for example.

The only downside? They’re not configurable. You have to stick with the default settings.

Battery: you don’t need anything else

The battery is undoubtedly one of its strong points, as it can offer up to 9 hours of playback without having to go back to the case, which is more than enough for a full day.

Add to that a case that provides 36 extra hours and also features fast charging. A sensational combo that is among the best I’ve tried in recent years.

Are the LG FreeTone T90s worth it?

I found the LG FreeTone T90s to be excellent headphones.

Not only because of their outstanding sound quality and very good noise cancellation, but also because of that extra something that Dolby Head Tracking provides, which creates a fantastic feeling of immersion.

Add to this an absolutely enviable battery life, a comprehensive app, and several features that practically no one else has, such as the light on the case to indicate the battery level and, above all, the UVnano ultraviolet light to clean the device.

Honestly, if you’re looking for sound and battery life as your main priorities, but without compromising on the other features, this is $229 very well spent.
