The Roborock Saros Z70 robot vacuum and mop is undoubtedly the best invention I’ve ever had in my home. It has saved me so much time on household chores over the last few weeks. And, of course, its object-picking arm is the best of the best.
Roborock has created a very stylish and really useful device that has made me quickly get rid of my broom, although its OmniGrip folding arm, which is precisely its strong point, has not worked as well as I thought at first and has only been able to put socks scattered on the floor back in their place.
The new Roborock Saros Z70 was undoubtedly one of the big surprises from the Chinese company at the CES Las Vegas 2025 international trade show. At an event where artificial intelligence was one of the main attractions, to the point that Nvidia took the opportunity to unveil a tiny AI-powered supercomputer, it was clear that it wasn’t going to be easy to catch the attention of the most tech-savvy attendees.
A household appliance that takes care of routine cleaning, sweeping, mopping, and grinding, and also allows you to forget about picking up small objects from the floor, such as socks, handkerchiefs, small towels, or light footwear (flip-flops, sandals, clogs) weighing up to 300 grams, is undoubtedly the best thing you can buy.
This aroused the curiosity of many, especially those who had the opportunity to see this robot vacuum cleaner up close, which stands out from all others thanks to its five-axis robotic arm capable of picking up all these objects and taking them to a specific storage box or an area previously configured by the user.
This is undoubtedly the biggest draw of this smart appliance, which is a great option if you have children or pets, as it saves you time and effort when picking up their toys. I’m sure you’ll be surprised by many other features.

In my long career as a technology journalist, I have had the opportunity to try other robot vacuum cleaners and have obtained very satisfactory results. However, I have noticed a common pattern in all of them: they are invariably white.
My house is decorated in dark tones, so I have always been reluctant to use these devices because they do not match my furniture at all. However, this time it is different: the Roborock Saros Z70 is black, like many other devices in its category—Roborock Saros 10, Roomba Combo 10 Max, and Qrevo Master.
This color always adds class to the home; it’s discreet, elegant, and doesn’t show dirt very easily. That’s why, as soon as I placed the base where it has been for weeks, its reflective plastic has done nothing but accumulate dust and lint. In addition, fingerprints are very noticeable, so if you put it in a place with natural light, this small flaw will become much more visible.
The charging station is very easy to use. It is equipped with two water tanks at the top, one for clean water and one for dirty water, as well as a vacuum bag at the bottom, which includes a separate replacement bag and the detergent tank. Obviously, neither the tanks nor the reservoir indicate the maximum levels, so I filled them by eye.
Setting up and getting this product up and running is very straightforward. Admittedly, it can sometimes be a tedious task, especially if you encounter setup issues, such as not being able to find the WiFi network. This robot is different. It started up immediately and was extremely fast both when starting up and mapping the house.
With unfailing precision, the Roborock Saros Z70 created a detailed map of my home in just 20 minutes. With a surface area of 68 square meters, this device demonstrated its ability to map spaces accurately. It also immediately recognized some of the rooms, such as the living room, bathroom, and bedroom, which is quite impressive considering that the entire apartment has the same type of flooring.
Although I was afraid it would get lost in one of the rooms and, for example, confuse the living room with the office, it found it very easy to identify some of the most prominent pieces of furniture in each room, such as the bed in the bedroom, the bookshelves, the sofa in the living room, and the TV stand. The Roborock mobile app is the ultimate solution for indicating where each room is and what furniture is in it.
When you activate the standard vacuuming and mopping mode, recommended for daily cleaning, intermediate suction power and water level settings are set, ensuring a very quiet process. Although these settings can be modified and increased or reduced, and the route can be changed, this default format offers excellent results and in 45 minutes it has completed a task that would have taken me more effort after a meal with friends at home
It is guaranteed that it only used 35% of its battery, so it returned to the charging base with 75% remaining without any problems, after performing three automatic mop washes and a minimum of two passes in each area. Its effectiveness is undeniable: it leaves the house more than presentable for visitors. Although it then takes more than two and a half hours for the mop to dry in the air, it is an essential tool.
It’s clear that everything changes when you select less moderate settings in the app and increase the suction power to the fourth level (maximum) or set the water level to maximum. In this case, it returned to the charging base with less than half the battery, but still left the floor spotlessly clean and shiny, even under furniture, where its height of 7.98 cm allows it to reach easily.
It is designed to work accurately, with a front light that activates automatically when it detects a dark area. It also adapts quickly when I move furniture and readjusts the map in a single pass, which I have found very useful with the low table in the middle of the living room.
However, it is too cautious when in a narrow space, as although it fits and reaches corners with its FlexiArm side brush, it misses some areas of the house. Without a doubt, its main strength lies in carpets, which it identifies instantly and lifts the mops, automatically detaching itself from the charging base when vacuum mode is activated. However, on some occasions, it has been reported that this is not actually the case.
It has undoubtedly been successful in recognizing where my cats are so as not to disturb them, where there are loose cables (icons appear on the map), and even objects that pose a risk of getting stuck, such as the clothesline. Although I was unaware of the specific details of the project, it confidently stated that it could not pass because it was “a piece of furniture with a crossbar,” using a cantilever chair as an example. Still, I’m glad it didn’t swallow the clothes that were hanging and dragging on the floor.
As for the AI SmartPlan, I am certain that it is not fully aware of the imperative need to increase suction power and the amount of water used for scrubbing in areas that require more thorough cleaning, such as around the dining table or in the kitchen. It is important to note that this cannot be changed on the fly, as any adjustments must be made while the robot is at its charging station.
Its robotic arm is certainly distinctive, if a little clumsy.
The Roborock Saros Z70 is a device that exceeds my expectations. I have realized that it is okay if I drop a sock and forget to pick it up, because it is able to locate it, pick it up with its OmniGrip arm, and place it where I want it. It has achieved this most of the time, considering that it has sometimes struggled to do so.
During cleaning, the robot accurately identifies any obstacle weighing less than 300 grams using its advanced sensors, determines its exact location, picks it up with precision, and deposits it in the built-in container in the product box, a handy trash can with the Roborock logo, or in a location previously defined in the device’s app.
The most interesting thing is that, after taking it to its place, the robot returns to the object’s point of origin and continues cleaning, ensuring that no corner is left uncleaned. However, the process takes longer than expected and requires many movements to position itself in front of the storage box.
When picking it up manually, the procedure is different, as you have to take the robot to the area where the object you want to pick up is located, and it must be in a blue zone that delimits the pickup area.
It is more than evident that, even when following this procedure step by step, using both the robot’s camera and the camera on its arm, which has a lower resolution than the first, the robot is not always able to recognize the sock in question. Therefore, it is indisputable that the automatic mode gives better results.
It is undeniable that the robotic arm function is very useful when it comes to socks, but not with other items of clothing. I tried it with a T-shirt and, although it detected it on the floor and picked it up, it was unable to take it to the right place and left it where it found it. It’s a shame.
Buying this robot vacuum cleaner is undoubtedly the best decision. If you don’t have time to pick up socks, paper balls, and other light objects from the floor and they are abundant in your home, then yes, but the reality is that what people usually look for in an appliance of this type is cleaning efficiency, and many other models already offer this.
